I have two blog friends that are Philly Police Officers and my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Cassidy, his family as well as Rain, Wyatt, and the rest of the Philadelphia Police Department.
Rain and Wyatt have written about the incident in which Officer Cassidy was gunned down by a POS Thug while on patrol working to keep Philadelphia safe.

  1. I am so sorry…

I can’t imagine what it must be like, knowing that you’re walking into the unknown every single day. Knowing in the back of your mind that today could be the last day you hug your kids and kiss your wife goodbye, as you head off to work.

All of you have my utmost respect for risking your own lives every day, in order to promote justice and security. You all must believe, with your whole heart, in what you’re doing. Otherwise, the risk wouldn’t be worth it.

I guess that’s one of the few things you can take comfort in, when you lose a fellow officer. Especially when it’s in the line of duty, like this. That he believed in what he was doing, just as much as you do. It wasn’t “just a job” and it’s not… to any of you good and honorable men.

It breaks my heart that, yet again, a family… friends… and officers around the country who know that it could have just as easily been them… have to mourn another life.

If nothing else, I’m glad that at least some good has come out of this terrible tragedy. It’s reminded YOU of the basics and sharpened an edge that can go dull without warning.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Officer Cassidy… and with all of you who will feel the effects of his death, regardless of whether or not you met him in person… because that man? And all the ones that have gone before him? Are the same in spirit as you.
