The stuff they didn’t tell you when you went through the academy

So most of my posts will have some sort of funny anecdote or involve quirky stuff that happens on the job. Im not sure if its that I’ve hit crusty old veteran status or just the fact that with society as screwed up as it is, This stuff isn’t as much fun as it used to be.

That being said this post is a cautionary tale, one of an officer that paid close attention to all the bookwork, physical training and most of all tactics.

Within the last 3 years this officer has seen massive changes, both good and bad in law enforcement, Things that have made the officers work life easier, sometimes harder but with the knowledge that it will keep him and his brother/sister officers safer, and quite frankly some really stupid undoable or unenforceable command decisions dictated by liberal politics and politicians trying to make a name for themselves upon the backs of hardworking officers and score points with feel good decisions to appease a public that does not have all the facts to make an informed decision on policy. Maybe a McGruff campaign explaining that 99% of the cops out there are hardworking men and women who want to earn an honest days pay for an honest days work, that dont want to shoot people just for shits and giggles, and that really still want to help you at your time of need no matter what you think of us.

All Lives Matter…

Let me be perfectly clear…

There are huge social issues that need to be reckoned with and made right, but rioting and even to some degree “peaceful protest” doesn’t seem to be working all that well. How-bout less acerbic and quite honestly racist shouting at each other from both sides of the table. Howbout reaching across the table taking a firm hand shake and saying howdy. Yes I know it sounds stupid but you cant come to any sort of agreement with someone you dont know and may have some trepidation and fear about. Say hi, find out their likes and dislikes. You might just suprise yourself and realize were not so different after all.

Getting back to my point, All lives matter, Including Blue Lives, I hate hearing the comment, Well you knew what you were getting into when you took the job and went through the academy. Bullshit, No one wants to die, and I surely dont want to die because someone has had a bad day or is driven by an agenda. There is no doubt in my mind that whoever you are and wherever you are reading this you can name the last 5 Officer involved shooting “victims” Let me ask you, and dont google it. Can you name the last 5 Officers who have fallen trying to protect this great country? The statistics dont lie, there have been more cops killed in the line of duty than lives taken in the line of duty (By a wide margin) Just think of that the next time you want to monday morning quarterback (with all the time in the world to think about it, and knowing that your decision wont matter one way or another because you werent there) What that responding officer has seconds to react to. Like I said All lives matter. This badge is heavy and most people cant or wont wear it for their own personal reasons and I respect that.

I am issuing the challenge to all of you that read this post, read this book HEARTS BENEATH THE BADGE   and tell me that you still feel ambivalent towards the cops.

By the way, that cop I was talking about in the start of this post is Me, in the next installment you will learn how you always need to keep your head on a swivel and protect your own 6 to the best of your ability even among those lucky cops who have made rank and are in the position of authority
